A.P.T.T. ( Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time )
Rate: Rs. 250
Sample
The blood is collected in anticoagulant with fixed ratio carefully (.2 ml anticoagulant( ESR solution may be used) and 1.8 ml whole blood).
Precaution
1.Plasma is stable for one hour at 4 C an 28 days if frozen.
2.Sample handling is very critical if the ratio of blood and anticoagulant is not correct then the results are false and raised.
Principle
The partial thromboplstin time (PTT) and Activated partial thromboplastin time( APTT ) are for the same function but APTT is more sensitive version of PTT.
Significance
This test is used for the diagnosis of bleeding disorders. A normal control is always run with the patient sample.
It is prolonged in the abnormality(deficiency ) of factor I,II, VII, XII, X, XI, XII,
NORMAL Varies with lab to lab.
But this will be less than 35 seconds.
ABNORMAL HIGH results are due to:
1.All congenital defeciencies of Intrinsic system coagulation factors.
2.Cirrhosis
3.Disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC )
4.Factor XII deficeincy
5.Haemophilia A and B
6.Hypofibrinogenemia
7.Malabsorption
8.Von Willibrand’s disease
9.Vit K defeciency
10.Fibrin break down products
11.Leukaemia
12.Drugs
APTT may be used in the patient to check treatment who are taking Heparin or other blood thining medicines.
