•The word hematocrit means to 'separate blood’ where blood cells and plsma are separated by centrifugation.
•While in electronic counters it is calculated by MCV.
•A caculated Hct is lower 2% than the microhematocritdue to trapped plsma in centrifuged colum of RBCs.
•Hct is lower in pregnant women than nonpregnant ladies.

Significance
1.Decreased values are indicator of Anemia.
2.Decreased values are also seen in, Leukemia, Lymphoma,
Hodgkins disease. and Myeloproliferative disorders.
This test give information about RBC concentration and helpful to see hemoconcentration.
Raised Hct seen in
1.Poycythemia.
2.Extreme physical excercise or excitement.
3.High altitude.
4.Hemoconcentration.
Decreasesd Hct seen in
•Anemia.
